Elections The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for administering elections in the City of Port Huron. To be eligible to vote, citizens must be registered at least 30 days before an election. A qualified elector must be 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States and have resided in Port Huron for at least 30 days. Pauline Repp, MMC Picture ID RequirementsEffective with the November 6, 2007 election, picture ID is required to be shown at the polling places prior to being able to vote. Acceptable forms of ID are: Michigan driver’s license or Michigan personal identification card, driver’s license or personal identification card issued by another state, federal or state government-issued photo identification, U. S. passport, current student identification with photo from a high school or an accredited institution of higher education, military identification card with photo or tribal identification card with photo. The photo identification does not have to show the voter’s residential address. If you have any questions about this requirement, please call the City Clerk’s Office at 810-984-9725. Precinct Boundary and Polling Place ChangesEffective with the May 8, 2007, election, if you were in Precincts 4 through 10, click here to see if you will now be voting at a new location.
Check Voter Registration Status To check your registration status, view upcoming elections, get a map and address for your polling location, or find out more about the election equipment used in Port Huron, visit www.michigan.gov/vote . This site also offers useful information about absentee voting, working at the polls and other election-related topics. If you are not registered, visit the City Clerk's Office at 100 McMorran Boulevard, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can also visit the Secretary of State's Office in the Court of Flags Mall, 2887 Krafft Road, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday and between the hours of 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday. You can also register by mail by visiting the Secretary of State’s web site at www.michigan.gov/sos to complete the Voter Registration Application or click here to download the form and return the application to City Clerk's Office at 100 McMorran Boulevard, Port Huron, Michigan, 48060. SPECIAL NOTE: A person who registers to vote by mail must vote in person in the first election in which he or she participates. The restriction does not apply to overseas voters, voters who are handicapped or voters who are 60 years of age or older. Voter Registration - Change of Address If you have moved and still reside within the City limits, you can change your voter registration record and your driver’s license by visiting our office. Absent Voter Ballot Application Absent voter ballots are available for all elections. They provide voters with a convenient method for casting a ballot when they are unable to attend the polls on election day.
After receiving your absent voter ballot, you have until 8 p.m. on election day to complete the ballot and return it to the City Clerk’s office. Your ballot will not be counted unless your signature is on the return envelope and matches your signature on file. If you received assistance voting the ballot, then the signature of the person who helped you must also be on the return envelope. Only you, a family member or person residing in your household, a mail carrier, or election official is authorized to deliver your signed absent voter ballot to your clerk’s office. If an emergency, such as a sudden illness or family death prevents you from reaching the polls on election day, you may request an emergency absent voter ballot. Requests for an emergency ballot must be submitted after the deadline for regular absent voter ballots has passed but before 4 p.m. on election day. The emergency must have occurred at a time which made it impossible for you to apply for a regular absent voter ballot. Please contact the office at 810-984-9725 for more information about emergency absent voter ballots. Voting is one of the most cherished and fundamental rights in our country. If you are eligible to obtain an absent voter ballot and cannot attend the polls on election day, use of the absent voter ballot is encouraged. The Secretary of State’s web site provides a video on "How to Use Optical Scan" equipment to make it easy to learn about the voting system used in the City of Port Huron, as well as throughout the entire State of Michigan. Visit www.michigan.gov/sos and select Elections in Michigan, Information for Voters, and then Voting Equipment. Accessible Equipment for Voters with Disabilities Each precinct has available voting equipment to allow voters who have a physical disability or are blind, visually impaired or otherwise unable to mark a ballot in the usual way to do so on a special voting system. The special voting system, called "AutoMARK," is intended to remove obstacles to voting for members of our disability community and to ensure they are given the same opportunity to access and participation as other voters on election day.
