Legal Department

The Legal Department is the office of the City Attorney which acts as legal advisor(s) to the City Council and the City Manager, as well as other departments and officers of the city. The Office of City Attorney represents the city in all legal proceedings or matters. The Office of City Attorney may use or employ outside counsel or consulting attorneys to assist in the legal representation of the interests of the city. The City Attorney attends all City Council meetings and is responsible for any legal advice which may be requested.

The City Attorney represents the city in court regarding ordinance violations as set in the Code of Ordinances of the City of Port Huron. These violations may result in a written citation for a misdemeanor offense or a municipal civil infraction.

The City Attorney also represents the City of Port Huron in such matters as evictions, garnishment proceedings and other similar actions.
