Port Huron Recreation Department

Recreation Office

The Recreation Office is located within the Palmer Park Recreation Center, 2829 Armour Street. Phone: 810-984-9760.

The Recreation staff maintains activities year-round which include providing staff and maintenance at Lakeside Beach, Conger (Lighthouse) Beach; and lifeguard staff and swim instructors at the Sanborn Park and Court Street swimming pools. Summer park programs are also offered within city neighborhoods for school-age children. Baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and park playgrounds are also available for use by residents and non-residents.

In the winter months, the Center will be open as a warming area when families are sledding and using the ice rink at Palmer Park.

The Recreation Department is committed to plan, promote, organize and supervise a comprehensive municipal recreation program and administer the same in the interest of the entire community.

 

Our Recreation Staff constantly evaluates the recreational interests and needs of the community and is responsible for the effective communication of the recreation programs to the citizens of the City of Port Huron.

Mission Statement

The Port Huron City Recreation Department shall concentrate their efforts on the determination and evaluation of the recreational needs of our community. To accomplish this, we will on an ongoing basis, work to establish new goals and priorities. We will consult with various agencies, citizens, previous activity participants, etc. to foster wholesome, quality recreational activities for families and youth, such as sports, crafts, playgrounds, social activities, swimming pools, beaches, ice rinks, and ball fields. We will participate with outside resources and develop relationships with our peer groups for the receipt and sharing of recreational programming and operational ideas and information.

We will serve as a resource for the purpose of disseminating up to date recreation and leisure activities for our community. We will utilize community facilities such as schools and public buildings in the promotion thereof. Administrative support is provided by Department Staff with technical assistance throughout other City Departments, as well as outside experts in the field of recreation. The outside information is to be utilized for the benefit of existing and future programs.
