COVID-19 Information

A message to our residents:

It has been a trying couple of months for everyone dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.   Our daily lives have been interrupted and for many this has been a very stressful time and one of uncertainty.

The Governor has lifted the Stay at Home restriction.  Outdoor crowds of up to 100 people are allowed.  Retailers can reopen to customers without an appointment starting June 4.  On Monday, June 8 restaurants and bars can reopen to dine-in service with groups to remain at least six feet apart, servers required to wear masks and capacity at 50%.  Our small businesses have suffered a major financial setback during the shutdown and I encourage our residents to shop and dine in Port Huron.

We are now in Phase 4 of a six-phase plan and for more details, visit

Even though we will be experiencing more freedoms in the coming days, it is still important that we follow the guidelines of social distancing, wearing masks and washing our hands frequently.

On another note, the country is experiencing a high incidence of riots and looting in response to the tragic unnecessary death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer in Minneapolis.   Police Chief Joseph Platzer has posted a written statement outlining his department’s protocols.   Please read this on the Port Huron Police Department Facebook page.  Be assured that we are blessed to have a professional police department that protects all of our citizens, no matter who they are.

I thank our residents for their cooperation and patience during the past couple of months!    Our city offices will open to the public on Monday, June 8.
