Administrative Hearing Officer (Independent Contractor)

The City of Port Huron is looking to appoint one or more part-time Administrative Hearing Officers to conduct impartial administrative hearings and make rulings on alleged blight violations occurring within the City of Port Huron. The duties will include hearing testimony, accepting evidence, issuing subpoenas, preserving and authenticating the record of hearing and evidence introduced, issuing a written determination and order, imposing appropriate sanctions where applicable, and conducting other functions of the Administrative Hearings Bureau as required.
The appointment will require attendance at approximately 4 to 8 hours of hearings per month and the hearing officer must be an attorney that has been licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan at least five years. Compensation for the Administrative Hearing Officers shall be an hourly rate recommended by the City Manager and set by resolution of the City Council. The successful applicant will be required to complete training as required by MCL 117.4q (11).
The rate of pay for the Administrative Hearing Officer position will start at $65.00 per hour - with an expectation of one to two four (4) hour blocks per month - seasonally adjusted due to demand and work load requirements.
The Administrative Hearing Officer is an independent contractor that will be appointed by the City Manager.
